1993 Renault twingo

The Renault Twingo is a four-seater passenger city car manufactured and marketed by the French auto-maker Renault, introduced in 1992 and currently in its third generation.

The first generation Twingo (two door, front engine) debuted at the Paris Motor Show on 5 October 1992, receiving its formal market launch in continental European markets beginning in April 1993. Renault launched the second-generation Twingo (two door, front engine) in the summer of 2007 – and the third generation (four door, rear engine) debuted at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show, receiving its formal market launch in September 2014.
The name Twingo is a portmanteau of the words twist, swing and tango.

We have here a 1:18 scale die-cast metal with plastic parts of a very popular French designed and made small runabout. I guess when you see it, the first thing you notice is the colour. I would say that its that colour that would be noticed at first glance. And yes, they actually were painted that colour in the actual vehicle. Its that bug-eyed headlights that in fact has that Nissan look on their small run-about at least from the front. So which came first the French or the Japanese? Still, this is an excellent model that shows that the French with their quirky designs at least make it a very interesting model.

On this model, all doors and bonnet open reasonably but would have been better if they could open wider especially the bonnet. It was very hard to get a very good view of the engine that had a surprising amount of detail. But the engine was very hard to get good images, so I hope that you forgive the quality of the details. Inside the model, the interior detail was quite good, and with the roof top cover, made getting images of the interior details quite interesting. The details such as the seats and dashboard giving good detail. As well as the steering column being of a scale that showed detail of controls without being as I call it chunky, but more realistic that some models.

So as a Model, it comes across as the original vehicle. Quirky looking especially from the front, but the colour? I guess everyones taste can be different. But collectable/ yes as if you consider the thousands of brands and models made, this is one that the museum likes as it shows the many different looks that one gets from the makers of our modern vehicles. But for detail and quality, 4.5/5.0. Robin Finlay. 13/09/2022.
